Compiling these facts was like -- no -- was worse than pulling teeth!
Knowing your alternatives might - I say MIGHT just mitigate the potentially REDICULOUS (and life threatening if you have a heart condition) cruise bar bill.

 You may bring water, soda & juice aboard at embarkation to consume in your cabin (don't walk around w/ container).
►
 “FREE:” Breakfast: milk/coffee. Lunch/Dinner: Tea/water/coffee. All Day: Iced tea, water, Room Service beverages.
►
 You may purchase, on board a 'soda card' for about $7 per day. There is a coffee maker in your room.
►
 Non-alcoholic fru fru coffee is available all day for various prices at various places on the ship.

 BEER IN HELMET BUCKETS: 6 beers for the price of 5: $20-$23*; 12&16 oz, domestic & imported.

 WARNING: It is very easy to sign that little slip over & over. Sit down before reading 'final tally on the last day.

 Pay a $15 'corkage fee' per bottle when you embark. Many people do this.
►
 It seems that the 'corkage fee' may increases for large bottles and boxed wine.
►
 Some folks pack the wine in their luggage & it goes undetected through x-ray and they do not pay the $15.
►
 Some folks try various methods... taking 'bag' of wine out of the box, packing in/near other 'solid things', packing it on the 'bottom' of the suitcase, etc. to avoid detection and are sometimes successful.
►
 If NCL suspects 'contraband' alcohol... (See “Naughty Room' below)


BRING LIQUOR ABOARD: (anecdotal – I have never done this)

 Expressly and contractually against NCL's rules. Many people try, however to varying degrees of success.
►
 The preferred methods are:
►
 Rumrunners.com, www.ems.com: Plastic, flexible, camping-type water containers with spouts. RR-CC-Q&A

 Filling water/soda/juice contains with liquor and carrying it on your person or in your luggage (see above).
“NAUGHTY ROOM”
►
 If the x-ray (click) personnel suspect your bag contains 'contraband' alcohol you will be notified (note in your stateroom) to claim your luggage after inspecting it with NCL in the 'naughty room': a conference rm designated temporarily for this purpose.
►
 If NCL finds alcohol you can choose to pay the wine 'corkage fee' - no corkage for liquor - or have it tagged (next).
►
 If alcohol is 'confiscated' by NCL they will 'tag' it and you can collect it at the end of the cruise. (time consuming?)
►
 The 'naughty room' may be a time consuming process if you go when the 'claim' announcement is made. I understand that you may delay & go to the 'desk' later & they will inspect your luggage with you at that time.
►
 Because of the way we booked i.e. via various travel agents I am not sure we are eligible for this program (for twenty or more in a group):
►
 We do not have to purchase seven days... we can purchase four or five or even three days.
►
 Every person in the group must purchase: Freestylers – all drinks, all bars (house wine) $46 pp/day incl. gratuity.
NCL STATEROOM BAR SET-UP
►
 An NCL bar set-up is a pre-cruise, in-cabin liquor delivery service provided by NCL.
►
 866.234.7350 (M-F 8-6:30pm EST and Saturday 9-5pm EST) ask for Angela Merino, “Spirit Group Events Coordinator.”
►

 The Bar Set-Up transaction should be complete at LEAST two weeks before sailing - best to call a few weeks before.
►
 Order and pay with credit/debit card for the bottle(s) you want to be already in your cabin before you arrive on board.
►
 There is a $3 delivery fee for each bottle (included in price list below).
►
 Note: NCL provides glasses and ice (diligently refilled by your cabin steward the entire cruise) but no mixers.
►
 The set-up must be ordered pre-cruise–you may not request this service once on-board. (4/9:JUST LEARNED THIS MAY NOT BE 100% CORRECT.)
►
 Prices/ bottle (see below) (I verified Beefeater $60 w/NCL 3/31/09) are about double local package store prices.
